frequently asked questions

  • Which languages can you translate for me?

I translate from French into English.

I also translate from French into Esperanto (I know - weird!) and from Esperanto into and from English. However, if you need an English into French translator, or any other language combination, I'll be happy to help you find one from among my trusted colleagues in the profession.

I can also localize US English to UK English for you.

  • What will it cost?

I assess each project individually and give you a sensible price for a reliable high-quality translation. Usually I'll give you a total-project price, so that you can budget easily. We’ll discuss exactly what you need and then I'll provide a clear itemised quote and proposal.

  • How quickly can you translate my project?

This depends on what your project is, how long it is, what else I already have scheduled in, etc. Let’s have a chat about your deadline and I’ll see what I can do.

If for any reason I don’t have the capacity to take on your translation within the timescale you need, I’ll recommend a trusted colleague to help you out.

  • How do I pay?

For projects totaling over £100, usually 50% of the total is payable as an advance deposit. Once we’ve agreed terms and dates, I’ll invoice you for this before starting work. The remaining balance is payable upon receipt of the completed translation and, again, I’ll send you an invoice for this.

Payment can be made by bank transfer or Paypal in GBP or EUR. It may be possible to pay by an alternative method or using another currency by prior agreement.

  • Can you translate my certificate?

Yes. As a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, I can translate and certify the translation of your official documents for the UK authorities.

This service includes all kinds of certificates, for example, birth, marriage, livret de famille, bulletin numéro 3, etc.

If you’re not sure what you need, get in touch and we’ll work it out together!

  • What do I need to prepare?

I’ll talk you through the whole translation process. It’s sensible to have your documents for translation finalized before I start - if you make changes, you might incur extra costs! I’ll ask you some questions, for example, about the purpose/audience for your document/video.

I’ll also keep in touch while the project is underway to let you know how it’s going and check in on any queries.

If you have a question that’s not covered above, then just get in touch and we can have a chat about it.
If it turns out that I’m not the right translator or proofreader for you, I’ll recommend one of my trusted professional colleagues.
